About

Born in Portugal, João Barreiros is a 27-year-old photographer, producer and creative director working across fashion and social documentary. Fascinated by intimacy, he explores the ways humans relate to themselves and the world, translating these interactions into visually strong imagery that questions moral and ethical perspectives on love.

Working primarily with analogue, João prioritizes empathy and narrative across diverse countries including São Tomé & Príncipe, Palestine, and Mozambique. Based in London, he recently completed a Master’s in Photography at the University of the Arts London and now focuses on long-term personal projects. These explore unseen environments governed by unique social rules, working within communities using the photo-voice methodology – an approach that has fueled his growing interest in art therapy.

On the commercial side, he has collaborated with brands such as Vans and Tiffany & Co, as well as publications including Kaltblut Magazine and Fucking Young!.

João’s work remains deeply personal, collaborative, and intuitive, evolving naturally across projects and often blending different bodies of work into a continuous and organic narrative. Whether documenting life in the London Underground, photographing couples in bed, shooting fashion campaigns or teaching photography to communities in Lusophone African countries, he aims to create space for vulnerability and authenticity, allowing people to be seen exactly as they are.
